Is Macbeth a hero or villain? Essay

The play ‘Macbeth’ by William Shakespeare is about an entrancing character known as Macbeth. Do we think of him as a legend or a reprobate? There has been a lot of addressing over this. Supposedly on, Macbeth went down many changed turns, some for good, and some for awful. Macbeth goes from a decent legend to a mean scoundrel all in a little timeframe. Numerous activities made Macbeth into a decent individual at the opening of the play, which gave him titles of dauntlessness, reliability, and a decent notoriety. At that point a few activities caused Macbeth to seem insidiousness, for example, carrying out wrongdoings, being ravenous, and having enticement. Macbeth can be viewed as either a saint or a scoundrel. Toward the beginning of the play, Macbeth was what seemed to be a saint. There are various extraordinary qualities to show that Macbeth is a saint, for example, him being faithful, kind, and by and large having a decent notoriety. To begin with, Macbeth had a decent notoriety. The thought expressed comprised of Macbeth to be a â€Å"valiant cousin, commendable gentleman† (Act 1, Scene 2, Line 1) by Duncan, the lord. This implies King Duncan is appreciating Macbeth for his astounding battles in the war, by calling him ‘valiant cousin’ which shows he is in cozy relationship with King Duncan. Additionally, by saying he is a commendable courteous fellows, Duncan is stating he is a good contender. Second, Macbeth is an exceptionally faithful man. â€Å"Till he confronted the slave; which ne’er shook hands, nor bade him goodbye to him, till he unseamed him from the nave to th’ hacks, and fixed his head upon our battlements.† (Act 1, Scene 2, Line 9) This citation clarifies exactly how steadfast Macbeth was to King Duncan and his nation. He put his life in peril to take on in the conflict against the adversary Macdonwald. This was the last fight he battled subsequent to meeting the three witches. Last, Macbeth was a thoughtful person. For example, he indicated extraordinary love for his significant other toward the beginning of the play. At the point when Macbeth composed letters to Macbeth revealing to her how he was, what his new musings were, and clarifying the amount he cherished her, he is being a sort and attentive man. From all his gallant titles toward the starting it shows Macbeth accomplishing the ‘understanding of a legend as an individual noted or respected for their boldness or remarkable achievements.’ (Illustrated Oxford Dictionary, Dorling Kindersley). Macbeth’s grit, reliability, and kindnessâ are completely what make Macbeth a gallant character. Macbeth is additionally a reprobate in the start of the catastrophe. A lowlife is characterized to be a malevolent individual who passe s by malicious ways to deal with get what he needs. To begin with, Macbeth decides he needs to be King of Scotland. He chose this when the witches anticipated that he would be Thane of Cawdor. On the off chance that the witches never invited him King of Scotland from the start, he never would have expectation about murdering the ruler. His activity guided him to continue shedding people’s blood, and was in blood too profound he couldn’t return. Later in the play Macbeth says to Lady Macbeth, â€Å"I am in blood/Stepp’d in up until this point, should I swim no more,/Returning were as dull as go o’er.† (Act 3, Scene 4)This articulation paints the picture of Macbeth washing in an ocean of blood, being far to such an extent that it is simpler to carry on than to return. Likewise, he developed increasingly confined from his better half, Lady Macbeth, and settled on decisions without her acknowledgment. For instance, when he began to slaughter honest families, for example, the MacDuff family and didn’t reveal to Lady Macbeth. So then he turned out to be progressively barbarous in his strategies to remain as the King of Scotland and general society characterize him as ‘This tyrant’ (V, iii) and ‘A shrunken thief’ (V, ii), by his malevolent ways. Finally, during the play, each time Macbeth endeavors to accomplish his desire, he continually hinders his good characteristics for an increasingly underhanded methodology. This desire of his focuses him to build up a troublemaker later in the play, which prompts his ruin and finishing up murder by Macduff. For example, a significant underhandedness activity Macbeth did was slaughtering King Duncan to make sure he could become ruler and increase power. In the book Macbeth expres sed: â€Å"I am settled, and twist up Every corporal operator to this awful accomplishment. Away, and mock the time with most attractive show: Bogus face must conceal what the bogus heart doth know.† (Act 1, Scene 7, Line 90, Pg. 61) Macbeth is expressing that he is prepared to slaughter King Duncan, and after he is done he should follow up on his ‘false face’ and make an effort not to have the blame sink in from reality in his heart. These detestable ways demonstrated Macbeth to be freezing hearted and a sequential executioner. There is no uncertainty that Macbeth was a scoundrel by his eagerness, misery, and allurement. Last, Macbeth had a decision to be detestable or be a saint. In the first place, the witch’s predictions gave him a decision to make. He could have tuned in to them or did what he thought was acceptable, yet rather he picked fiendish ways. At the point when Macbeth attempts to discover the witches in a dim cavern, he discovers them, and afterward they give him three apparitions. The main soul appears as an outfitted head that says, â€Å"Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! be careful Macduff;/Beware the thane of Fife.† The subsequent soul is a shocking child that tells Macbeth, â€Å"Be bleeding, intense, and undaunted; giggle to hate/The intensity of man, for none conceived of lady/Shall hurt Macbeth.† At last, the third spirit was another kid with a crown on his head, disclosing to Macbeth that he â€Å"Shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane Hill/Shall come against him.†(Act 4, Scene 1) This bogus confidence Macbeth was given was exce ptionally noteworthy so he could settle on his definitive choice which finished tragically. Macbeth had his wife’s considerations as well. Woman Macbeth persuaded him to submit the homicide when he addresses the outcomes to her. For Macbeth to be detestable, he went with Lady Macbeth revealing to him he was too ‘un manly’ to execute Duncan and he ought to do it to turn into a man and not be a child. The immediate citation that was utilized for Macbeth’s spouse was â€Å"When you durst do it, at that point you were a man â€Å"(act 1, scene 7, line 4). Macbeth had a ton of choices to pick the malevolent way or the most difficult way possible. He could have picked the chivalrous side which implied him despite everything being thane of Caldor and Glamus, being dealt with pleasantly by Kind Duncan, and not feeling blame by executing guiltless individuals. Macbeth at long last, picked the evil ways which at some point or another slaughtered off his significant other from her outrageous blame. This would not have occurred in the event that he had settled on precise choices. Unfortunately, this is totally activated by miss treatment, being misdirected by his cherished one, not seeing any impro vements he has made and non-presence love. Taking everything into account, MacBeth is an entangled character whose human instinct implies that he holds both great and abhorrence characteristics from the beginning of the play to the completion. He was courageous by being a resilient individual, a legend to Scotland, a Lord under the guidance of King Duncan, and having no motivation to feel miserable with where he is throughout everyday life. Macbeth’s valiance, feeling of good and bad and his reluctant technique for awful conduct are too known as his shrewd desire, clever and cold-bloodedness. Macbeth can't be contended as being purelyâ heroic or contemptible; the trouble of his character is demonstrated by his horrendous inward battles and fueled by his imaginings. It’s exceptionally intense to indicate if Macbeth is malevolent or a saint, so from the considerations wherever what might you reflect? Works Cited: Shakespeare, William. Macbeth. A survey of 2.3 million LinkedIn profiles done by the Wall Street Journal reveals that almost 58% of the employees who had amazing communication skills were chosen by the hiring managers over the course of a year. The survey proves that soft skills are just as important as technical skills when it comes to impressing employers. Here is a list of the important skills and explanation of the reasons for them to be considered important:Professionalism â€" It is ve ry important to be a professional in the desired field if you want to get the job. Also, you must know that being a professional does not mean possessing any college degree or wearing a coat and tie and having a noted title, it is much more than that. Professionalism is related to how a candidate conducts himself during his/her business affairs. The true professionals have several characteristics that can be applied to almost all kinds of business. One of those characteristics is the demeanor of the candidate. A candidate’s demeanor must exude confidence instead of cockiness. The candidate should always be well spoken and polite while interacting with the hiring manager. The hiring managers may give the candidates case studies to solve during interviews and they must solve them as calmly as they can.Honesty and integrity â€" When you are being interviewed or after you have gotten the job, you will be expected to act as a professional and find a way to get the work done fast. Howev er, that does not mean you have to get the job done by foul and dishonest means. It is important that you respond to the questions asked by the hiring managers honestly. In addition to this, you must never attach false data to your cover letter or your resume/CV because that cannot only make you lose the job but also lose the trust of the hiring managers in general. Candidates who are honest and have strong moral principles are preferred by job seekers. Especially considering the recent scandals in the corporate sector, nowadays employees want personal integrity more than anything else.Adaptability â€" Candidates who are social and open to new concepts and new ideas are more in demand by the hiring managers. Companies look for applicants who have no problem in changing environment or workplaces time to time. Applicants who are highly positive, adaptable, resilient and patient are the ones who are really open to new ideas and these applicants are selected before others during job int erviews. The candidates who are open to work as part of a team or work independently and to carry out several projects and tasks are also preferred by hiring managers.Problem-solving â€" The hiring managers want applicants who are in love with the job they do. Applicants who are passionate about what they do are also the ones who work on a problem till they solve it and get the work done. The employers want workers who are productive and have strong work ethics as well as individuals who exert their best efforts to complete a task successfully. All kinds of businesses have their issues and the way an employee deals with those issues is what makes him/her different from others. The better you are at dealing with a problem, better are the chances you have in bagging the job.Dependability, reliability and responsibility â€" Almost all employers want employees who arrive to work on time every day and are always ready to work on their task or project. No hiring manager wants an employee who sits idle, takes several breaks and delays on deadlines. Candidates who believe in taking responsibility for their actions are generally wanted by the hiring managers. If you are a responsible contributor and are dependable, hiring manager would prefer you over other applicants.Loyalty â€" The hiring managers want employees who promise to have a strong dedication as well as devotion to the company. There are times when the company would not be doing very well in the market, this is where the loyalty of the employees is tested most. The applicant who will have a strong devotion to the company are wanted by the employers. The hiring managers may even give you some situations to see how you would act in times to financial crisis or market value decline of the company. Employers want candidates who stay with the company and are loyal to it even when the management is not quite loyal to its employees. Mostly people who have a work experience are able to prove their loyalty with the c ompany as they have past records.Positive attitude/motivation/energy/passion â€" Having a positive attitude about things you do is important. Hence, before applying for a job, ask yourself if you are passionate for the work they are asking of you. Doing a job just for the sake of money is not good for your career because subsequently you would get bored of the job and would want to leave it. The hiring managers want applicants who demonstrate their passion, their enthusiasm towards the job with both words and actions. The jobseekers who eventually get hired or get promoted are the ones who have the drive to complete the job with both energy as well as positive attitude. Self-confidence â€" Someone who lacks self-confidence is generally very unsure about what he/she does and requires motivation constantly. Employers want jobseekers who are confident about themselves and the work they do. Self-confidence is very important to complete a task successfully, especially a task that has the element of risk involved. A self-confident employee is willing to take risks to complete their professional as well as personal goals.Teamwork â€" A business, whether a partnership or a company, involves more than one person and the employee/smust work with the owners as a part of the team. Nowadays, there are a lot of jobs that involve working in a work group or in a team, so the jobseekers should have the ability to work with other people in a professional manner in order to achieve a common goal. Applicants who excel in building relationships with colleagues and customers are wanted by the hiring managers.Planning and organizing â€" Candidates who can plan, organize, design and implement projects within a given time period are also wanted by the hiring managers. Without proper planning, a task cannot be completed, hence, the candidate should have this soft skill to get the job. Jobseekers who have excellent organization and planning skills and are detail orientated are in demand more than applicants who are not.Leadership and management skills â€" Leadership is not something you are born with, but you learn to lead with experience and knowledge. Employers look for employees who have the ability to lead a team, take charge of the co-workers and manage them. The goal driven job-seekers who can motivate co-workers and other employees effectively are wanted by hiring managers. Further, applicants who maintain a productive climate, mobilize confidently as well as coach co-workers to do high standard work are wanted by the employers.Multicultural sensitivity and awareness â€" We live in a beautiful world where we interact with people from different cultures, race and other communities almost daily. In the workplace as well, there is diversity and it is the responsibility of the employee to behave in a polite way with everyone. The applicants who want a job in a particular company should demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to other cultures and people. Employers want employees who have an ability to work with a diverse workforce in different multicultural settings. Willingness to learn â€" Applicants who are knowledge hungry, eager to meet challenges, enthusiastic and are quick to assimilate new ideas and concepts are much in demand these days. This soft skill is important because jobs are changing and evolving constantly now and the candidates should be open to learn and grow with that change.Self-motivated and able to work without supervision â€" Teamwork is an important skill but so is the ability to work with minimal supervision and independently. A person who is self-motivated and who initiates work is in more demand than other applicants who do not do that.Analytical skill â€" Jobseekers who have the ability to articulate, visualize, conceptualize and solve the uncomplicated as well as the complex problems by making decisions which are sensible are welcomed by the hiring managers. The credit card holder can’t imagine even what had happened with him. The other method of credit card’s â€Å"hacking† is â€Å"white card†. Is The Ladders Irresistible Or Irrational

Is The Ladders Irresistible Or Irrational Oooh, ah, la la la. Half-clothed men lying on an office floor in evocative poses.   Fully clothed (in office casual) men crawling on top of each other.   Women crawling (yes more crawling) or dancing on desks seductively, wind blowing through their hair.   Overactive wind machines. These images, overlaid upon a sultry â€Å"Oooh, ah, la la la† musical score, comprise a January 2011 television commercial from The Ladders.   It seems some effort was put into infusing this marketing piece with†¦Ã‚   ummm†¦Ã‚   political correctness?   The video is replete with intimations of gay relationships, interracial relationships, and Asian and Black successful careerists. But what’s politically correct about people seeking employment through sex appeal, regardless of how ridiculous it clearly is? I get it.   It’s a metaphor and it’s meant to be outrageous.   Come to The Ladders and we’ll create an â€Å"irresistible† image that will get you the job of your dreams.   But why would anyone want to work with a company that resorts to wacky sexual innuendo to gain clients who are climbing the corporate ladder? I also get that social media has blurred the distinction between private and public lives, and that employers might be able to view a prospect’s â€Å"relationship status† through a quick Facebook search.   Maybe sex and job search are no longer so far removed from each other as I would like to think.   Perhaps that’s a question for The Ladders.   I sent them a trackback so maybe theyll respond here. The small print in the video says â€Å"Be more attractive to $100K+ employers.†   One thing’s for sure, the folks in this commercial could use a LOT of help. I suppose that’s the point. Or perhaps this whole mockery is simply an attempt to create viral video. What do you think?   Is The Ladders irresistible?   Or just irrational?   Would you be more or less likely to hire The Ladders after seeing this commercial?   I would absolutely love to hear your opinions on this one! And if you want solid resume and cover letter help with just the right â€Å"pop† and appeal, consider The Essay Expert’s Resume and Cover Letter packages. What were the causes of the Global Financial Crisis which began in Essay

What were the causes of the Global Financial Crisis which began in 2008 - Essay Example Mortgage capital expansion based policy that took upon the local industries such as housing, small to medium scale business activities led to an unprecedented environment and accumulation of artificial bubble. It was early in 2007 when the high risk mortgages saw an unusual trend in the market existence in the form of defaulting initiation to the business activity set the market on negative trends and footings leading on to massive economic strangulation in next year or so. Initial normalcy and relatively lower interest rates were another contributing factor that resulted in the upward pressure on the industry as well as the private lending agencies and entities being forced to increase the rates of interest subject to the external market and negative values by that time towards mid 2008. Mortgage backed security (M.B.S) was another mechanism and aiding element which lead to the stiffening of the market and overall mood. The second factor that contributed to the global recession was the element of securitization of the mortgages. It has been termed as the contributing factor which led to reduced certainty within the market trends and increased trends of risk. Introduction of concepts and policies such as Corporate loan securitization led to an initial let off to the investors and banking sector businesses that were initially indebted in small scale values, yet the long term impacts would show up in times ahead which did so in the most frightening form in span of less than five years from after 2002-2003. The fact that the American government had been following a relatively non consistent trend and pattern of loan handling made the picture relatively further murky. The practices such as collateralized loan obligation(C-L-O), was one similar practice of the United States government and banking policies which lead to increased debt values. The values initially were limited to less than 25 billion dollars, in less than five

Hartline, 2008)  § For instant, Nestle(M) re-launched the everyday low price Nestle branded range of Take-Home Tubs with Hi calcium, in line with the Nestle corporate wellness initiatives, to further strengthen the leadership position in the affordable segment. (Nestle, 2008) à ® Competitive Matching Pricing strategy focuses on matching competitors prices and price changes. Although some firms may charge slightly more or slightly less, these firms set prices at what most consider to be the ‘going rate for the industry(O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Nestle set the Nescafe Menu according to the ‘going rate whereby market the 15-pack bags at the recommended retail prices of RM12.90 which is almost the same with the Old Towns white coffee (RM12.90) Strategies for adjusting à ® Promotion discounting Virtually all firms, even those using value-based pricing, will occasionally run special promotions or sales to attract customers and create excitement (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Nestle uses this strategy to attract new and old customer and increase their sales during promotion. à ® Reference pricing Firms use reference pricing when they compare the actual selling price to an internal or external reference price. All customer use internal reference prices or the internal expectation for what a product should cost. As consumers, our experiences have given us a reasonable expectation of how much to pay for the product (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). A pack of 15 pack-bags coffee cost above RM7.90 above and at the average price of RM11.50 to RM13.50 thus consumer expectation price also will be around that ‘reference price. (b) Product Strategies The launched of New Nescafe Menu is using product line extensions strategy by adding new flavours of coffee to Nescafe brand. These products supplement an existing product line with new styles, models, features or flavour and it allow the firm to keep its product fresh and exciting with minimal development cost and risk of market failure (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Product Strategies Branding strategy * Line extensions à ® It occurs when a company extends existing brand names to new forms, colours, sizes, ingredients, or flavours of an existing product category. (Philip Kotler and Gary Armstrong, 2010) à ® In this scenario, Nescafe introduce the new Nescafe menu by proving three new flavour of coffee to meet consumer variety. Packing and labelling * Nescafe Menu used a simple design by implements the photo of beverages in the packing and picks the colour to suit the beverages. * A big and clear brand name is spot in the top of the packing. * 15-pack bags at the recommended retail prices of RM12.90 * Nescafe also provide 3 flavour in a box of 6-pack bags for consumer who want to have a try for all the flavour. Customer Support Service * According to O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline (2008), a firm may have difficulty differentiating its products when all products in a market have essentially the same quality, features, or benefits. In such cases, providing good customer support ― both before and after the sale helps in identifying and defining consumer needs. * Nestle provides the toll-free customer service line (1800 88 3433) in order to help them to know more about consumers needs and strengthen the current position. Product Life Cycle ― Nescafe Introduction stage i. Attracting customer by raising awareness of and interest in the product offering though advertising, public relation and publicity efforts that connect key product benefits to customers needs and wants (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). First, Nestle make the official launch for new product included Press conference then advertising their product through newspaper, radio and television. ii. Inducing customer to try and buy the product through the use of various sale tools and pricing activities (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Nestle conducts free testing section, gives free samples to customer at hypermarket and offers their product in cheaper price during the promotion of new launched product. iii. Furthermore, Nestle ensure there is high availability and visibility of the product through trade promotion activities that encourage channel (hypermarket, convenient store and etc) to stock and support the product (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Growth stage i. Nescafe has a strong branding, high quality with reasonable price to secure their market position. ii. Utilize advertising to stress the products benefits for target customer (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). iii. Maintain and control over product quality to ensure customer satisfaction (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). For example, Nestle collect the customers feedback through their customer service line and email. iv. Contact with key channel especially retailers to get a better shelf space that easily catch customers eyes. Maturity stage i. Nescafe manage to hold the 70% market share of the Malaysian market share with its soluble coffee ranges (Don Howat, 2009) ii. Nestle able to create cash flow and invest it for new products or technology to improve their companys portfolio. iii. At this stage, Nescafe also develop a new product image and apply the new technology to their products. (c) Distribution strategy Nestle uses the indirect marketing channel with intensive distribution that makes a product available in the maximum number of merchants or outlets in each area to gain as much exposure and as many sales opportunity as possible (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Multiple customer-marketing channel Adapted from Business (tenth edition)by William M. Pride, Robert J. Hughes, Jack R. Kapoor, 2009. Available at http://books.google.com.my/books?id=zb0cItqvLJUCpg=PT427dq=customer+marketing+channelhl=enei=PNa4S6_3I4SyrAfPpfXDCgsa=Xoi=book_resultct=resultresnum=7ved=0CFMQ6AEwBg#v=onepageq=customer%20marketing%20channelf=false Nestlà © as the producer keep the product in their national distribution centre which is used as the main logistic function ― warehouse. Next, wholesaler represent hypermarket that gets the products for the agent (sales office) and then sell it to retailer and customer. (d) Promotion strategy Nestle applied the promotion mix as the promotion strategies. Nescafe use product advertising to promote the image, features, uses, benefits, and distribution of products (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). They present their advertising through television, radio, magazines, newspapers, outdoor display and the internet. Thus, consumers can have a look of the physical evidence of the product. Public relations can be referring to the process in the 7Ps of the marketing mix. It used to promote the firms, its people, its ideas, and its image and even to create an internal shared understanding among employees and can create specific images such as quality, innovativeness, value, or concern for social issues (O.C. Ferrell Michael D. Hartline, 2008). Nestle uses different methods such as press conferences, press releases and event sponsorship. For instant, Nescafe organizes press conferences and releases official press to announce the launch of the Nescafe Menu. Personal selling refers to personal presentation by the firms sales force for the purpose of making sales and building customer relationships. Sales people (as one of the 7Ps of marketing mix) will carry out the communication that attempts to inform customers about products and persuade them to purchase those products. Nestle uses the 6 sales offices and their employees to sell their products. Sales promotion direct towards consumers and trade is applied. Nestle gives sale promotion by giving out samples, point-of-purchase promotion and contests. For example, Nestle promotes different contests for their product seasonally to create excitement for consumers and increase the sales. Moreover, they offer trade allowance and selling incentives offered to an intermediarys sales force. Conclusion and recommendations In conclusion, Nestle group is a strong financial corporate and Nestle Malaysia is a Multinational company that have a bright future in exporting Halal product to more countries out of Asia. The ‘born of the new Nescafe Menu means a revolution of Nescafe beverages by offers local-styled coffee according to consumers needs. Furthermore, I discovered that Nestle do not have a brand that offers tea beverages as new line of product and attract non-coffee drinker to be Nestlà ©s consumer. Moreover, Nescafe ought to provide all their beverages in can so that it easy to carry to everywhere and enjoy it at anytime. As the awareness of health issues is rising rapidly in Malaysia, Nestle should provides their product with low sugar range or replace it with sugar cane which is more healthier compare to fine sugar. Lastly, Nestle should re-design their logo, label and packing as it rated as less attractive compare to its competitor. As the fast-development of multimedia, Nestle should fully utilize it in their packing and advertisement to suit the new generation. Recent Economic Developments Essay

The world is currently experiencing a dramatic change in the economy with the emerging forces in the world s most rapidly developing nations. These nations have the greatest market share in the global perspective and are a serious threat to established world corporations (Agtmael 2007). Most of the companies in the emerging economies have combined their production trends with information technology, which is encouraging innovation and creativity. Currently there are hundreds of companies from the emerging market that are global competitors. The most notable as described earlier are the Chinese and the Indians; scholars have ascertained that if the current trend in their development is not affected in a negative way, then by the year 2050, China and India would be among the three topmost powerful economies of the world (Marber 2008). Economic analyses have found that the leading companies from the emerging economies are growing at a very fast rate estimated at about 25% per year and more than 29% of their revenue is collected from foreign market, this is expected to grow up to 40% by 2010. Conclusion The social and economic changes in the world have been very critical in determining the economies of the nations. The development of the world financial market has lasted for over a century with different states changing their positions in the system. Bureaucratization is the notable early development of economic policies that saw increased collection of taxes in old empires and eventually enhanced the states ability to borrow money further increasing bureaucracy. Major phenomena that stimulated economic development were agriculture and capitalist economy, but the recent and significant of them was the industrialization which has intensely revolutionized economy. Industrial Revolution Essay - 1205 Words

The Industrial Revolution In early American history, one of the most important events that shaped the country was the Industrial Revolution. Overall, this period of technological growth in the early to mid-1800’s modernized the country and served as a bridge between the colonies and the new formation of the United States that exists today. It strengthened internal ties joining the states and increased it’s standing as a new nation. At the same time, this revolution also further divided the North and South, setting the stage up for the Civil War. Joined together during this period of time, each new invention would be the change that propelled America into a powerful nation. By 1840, the South was producing well over half of all American exports, mostly in the form of cotton. As these inv entions increased the production and reward of farming, the South continued to stay an agricultural society, dependent on slaves for their labor. Without these inventions, slaves may have faded out as in the North, or the South’s economy would not have been as strong from the sale of cotton and other farm goods. These agricultural inventions and others such as mechanical reapers that made farming faster affected other areas besides the South. As farmers could more quickly farm, producing almost double the amount of their harvest by the 1860’s, the move west became increasingly more enticing. Each farmer now needed more and more land which pushed them farther and farther west. This need for land and the continuing thoughts of white superiority created the idea of manifest destiny that became an essential idea in this time period. Manifest destiny was the idea that America had an absolute right to and was destined to take and civilize all of the land for itself in Nort h America, a sort of subset to the famous American dream concept.
